I just read: Queen of Shadows | Throne of Glass 4 | Sarah J Maas | 5/5

Blurb The queen has returned. Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past… She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight. She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return. The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.   My Thoughts For me, this was a great read which got better and better. I understand some of the low reviews, why some people aren't happy with the way characters were treated - but honestly, I...

I just read: Crescent Moon | Phoebe Harkness 2 | James Fahy | 5/5

Blurb What do you do when your world is turned upside down? When you discover your father had a direct hand in the genocide of much of the world’s human population? Phoebe Harkness’ life has changed forever. Thirty years after a cataclysmic world war that eviscerated one third of the human population, a new sub-species of vampire-like drones has set its teeth to the survivors of humanity. But that is all about to change. A spate of serial killings have occurred, rocking the already fragile ecosystem of New Oxford. Brutal murders and mutilation are now commonplace. Phoebe must get to work. She is named as liaison between the Genetic Others and the Cabal, the ruling order of the walled city. She must negotiate with the Tribals, a subset of werewolves cast aside by the cultural hegemony of the Cabal. But...

I just read:: A darker shade of magic | Shades of Magic 1 | VE Schwab | 5/5

Blurb Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black. Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand. After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. I just read: Ruin and Rising | Grisha Trilogy 3 | Leigh Bardugo | 5/5

The final installment in the Grisha trilogy turned out to be a very satisfying read. The Darkling really makes this series. There's still a part of me that wishes his story had gone a different way,  but it's given me a lot to think about on writing villains and their relationships. The story was peppered with wit and humour (largely thanks to Nikolai),  with a good twist and a great ending that gave me all the feels! I'm a bit sad to leave this world... Wow. Wow. Wow.  This book owned me! There are lots of books out there right now about the 'alpha-billionaire-badboy-asshole' and the poor girl who falls under his spell - in need of his money, and his love... I tried one of these books a while ago and it did nothing for me.  But boy,  does L. J Shen know how to do it right.  Perfectly, in fact. I couldn't pick any faults. Vicious is a dick,  but one that you are totally left swooning for! Gahh my heart! I have ALL THE FEELS! Very excited to read Defy and Ruckus now... Author Lj Shen Amazon UK Amazon US Goodreads ...
