The queen has returned.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

My Thoughts

For me, this was a great read which got better and better. I understand some of the low reviews, why some people aren’t happy with the way characters were treated – but honestly, I still loved it! This world is really coming to life now and the stories weaving within are incredible. I think some of my favourite chapters were those concerning Manon and her Thirteen.  And, well now – I liked Dorian, and I liked Chaol a little more,  but they didn’t quite ‘do it’ for me in any major way. But Rowan? Mmhmm…  Consider me done. I’m in awe of the worlds and characters that Sarah J Maas creates. Bring on the next… 🙂

Packed with heart-pounding action, fierce new characters, and swoon-worthy romance, this third book will enthrall readers from start to finish.

My Thoughts

Well, Sarah J. Mass is firmly rooting herself as one of my favourite authors! Once again I found myself engrossed in Celaena’s story, intrigued by this world of magic and war, and frequently pausing to ponder the greatness of aspects in the storytelling. Admittedly, as with book two, I found it a little slow at times, but it really kicked off in the second half and has again left me eager for more.

Theo:
One, two, three…Six dicks!
Six dicks are living under the same roof with my girl. My girl!
How did we get to this point? How did one act of kindness, one act of lunacy, turn into this? I’ll tell you. Her bleeding heart. “I have to help him,” she said. “He needs someone.”
Months later, she has five freaking more!
Suddenly, she can’t come to my games or spend time with me.
Everything is about them.
Well, guess what? I don’t care what level of asshole I have to resort to, I’m going to show these vets just who Anniston McCallister belongs to. My name has been written on those seductive little panties of hers for seven years and no amount of muscle is going to ruin what we have going.
You may not like me.
You may think I’m an ass.
But understand that no matter what good deeds Anniston McCallister has done, she’s no angel. The girl craves rough and dirty debauchery.
And I’m just the man to give it to her.

Anniston:
I found Cade near death, in a ditch.
One look at those enchanting green eyes and I knew I had found my calling. Is it my fault that my newfound roommates threaten Theo to the point of insanity, causing him to parade around all angry and pissed off, marking his territory in every corner?
Theo started this “just friends” game when he banged some skank right after he took my virginity.
That kind of dirty play deserves payback, and I plan on making that phenomenal ass pay on his knees until he admits we were always more than, “just friends.”
But in the meantime, I have a foundation to start and men to command. Someone has to manage these hotties, and I’m just what the doctor ordered.
I am their Commander.

My Thoughts

I had an idea of what I thought this book would be… but I was so wrong! It felt totally original, with a plot unlike any romance I’ve read so far.  Humorous, sizzling, and heart-warming… And remember, not what you think! Anniston is strong and fiesty. Theo and Cade? Loyal,  protective, adorable.. One of them happens to be an a-hole, and yep,  you’re still going to end up loving him!

Okay,  so perhaps I found Anniston a little too bossy at times.. But that’s kind of the point,  so I’ll let it go! And this book is looong… A couple times I found myself thinking it was getting a bit slow, with the same back and forth,  but it soon hooked me back in again.

Definitely worth a read! Well done Kristy on some fantastic debut writing.

“A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.”

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

My Thoughts

“The killing calm…  Even he had never realised just how calm she could get when she went over the edge. If they wanted Adarlan’s Assassin, they’d get her. And Wyrd help them when she arrived.”

Ooh, Celaena’s journey continues, and it’s goooood! I found this book a little slow to get going, but once it did, I couldn’t put it down. Loving the developing relationships and revelations… High hopes for book three!

“Nothing is a coincidence. Everything has a purpose. You were meant to come to this castle, just as you were meant to be an assassin.”

When magic has gone from the world, and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. She does not come to kill, but to win her freedom. If she can defeat twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition to find the greatest assassin in the land, she will become the King’s Champion and be released from prison.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her.

And a princess from a foreign land will become the one thing Celaena never thought she’d have again: a friend.

But something evil dwells in the castle—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying, horribly, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the source of the evil before it destroys her world.

My Thoughts

I can’t believe it took me this long to read Throne of Glass. I think I was scared to start because the series is huge,  and because I loved ACOTAR so much that I worried this would pale in comparison.

I needn’t have worried. It was awesome! At the moment I do still prefer Rhys and the land of Prythian,  BUT I have a feeling this series is going to get better and better, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Celaena and Chaol,  Celaena and Dorian?! Gah! I love their developing relationships! And whose asses is she going to kick?!

What do you do when your world is turned upside down?

When you discover your father had a direct hand in the genocide of much of the world’s human population?

Phoebe Harkness’ life has changed forever. Thirty years after a cataclysmic world war that eviscerated one third of the human population, a new sub-species of vampire-like drones has set its teeth to the survivors of humanity.

They’re not the only ones: ‘Genetic Others’ such as vampires, werewolves and more roam the streets of New Oxford, trying – and sometimes failing – to live peacefully amongst humankind.

But that is all about to change.

A spate of serial killings have occurred, rocking the already fragile ecosystem of New Oxford.

Brutal murders and mutilation are now commonplace.

Phoebe must get to work. She is named as liaison between the Genetic Others and the Cabal, the ruling order of the walled city.

She must negotiate with the Tribals, a subset of werewolves cast aside by the cultural hegemony of the Cabal.

But before she can make any progress with the Tribal leader, Kane, she learns of more murders – and three missing students. And Kane’s daughter is among the missing…

One of the victims leaves a message in blood: ‘Crescent Moon’.

Now Phoebe must act urgently with the help of Kane and her former paramour, vampire Allesandro to track down the culprit of these horrific killings.

But who is conducting all of these strange happenings behind the scenes?

And what does it have to do with the Crescent Moon…?

Crescent Moon is the gripping second instalment of the urban gothic Phoebe Harkness series. It follows the young doctor as she stalks through the corrupt dystopia of New Oxford.

My Thoughts

Ooooooooh! Book two in the Phoebe Harkness series was so good!! Fantastic world-building, and I love all the characters. The plot continued to surprise me, gradually opening up to a bigger picture. I can’t wait for book three.  Tell me it’s coming soon?!

New Oxford.

A third of the human population has been lost.

The wars came, and they created a monster. The Pale, a subhuman, vampire-like drone. Then they lost control.

In the thirty years that followed, humankind sought to rebuild itself within the walls of New Oxford.

But society had become fractured – humans now lived incongruously among Genetic Others, themselves a group of many subspecies.

The most dangerous of them all: the vampires.

Somehow, these groups have managed a peaceful co-existence under the controlling government influence of the Cabal. But that is all about to change…

When Phoebe Harkness receives a phone call in the middle of the night, things take a turn to the horrifying. Her supervisor at Blue Lab One, a high-security research facility, has gone missing.

And all that is left behind: her teeth.

Dr Harkness now finds herself in a race against time to stop further bloodshed and uncover the mystery behind the victims of this horrific crime. She must navigate the dark underworld of the vampire community, without becoming someone’s prey herself…

But she is not alone – on her side, against all odds, is another vampire. Together they must fight for answers before it’s too late…

Hell’s Teeth is the gripping first instalment of the urban gothic Phoebe Harkness series. It follows the young doctor as she stalks through the corrupt dystopia of New Oxford.

My Thoughts

You guys! This book was SO good!! The opening chapter was brilliant – hooked me right in – and kept me that way right through.  I found it surprisingly refreshing to read a vampire story where romance wasn’t the central theme. Phoebe Harkness is witty, strong and extremely likeable. Fast moving plot,  and fantastic world-building.  Very impressed, I’m excited to read more from this author.

My Thoughts

Benny is back!! Once again, this is one sick and twisted ride! Unfortunately, I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as the previous books. I struggled to enjoy the character voices this time and felt it was a bit forced in places. They made Dillon sound like a complete idiot.. In fact, all the characters were irritating! Oh, and numerous typos didn’t help…  Still, I’m looking forward to the spin off series, I’ll give it a go…

I just read: The Wild | K Webster | 3/5

Blurb

I brought them to the wilderness because we couldn’t cope with our reality.
The plan was to make a new life that didn’t include heartache.

No people. No technology. No interference.
Just us.
A chance to piece together what was broken.

But the wilderness is untamed and harsh.
Brutal and unforgiving.
It doesn’t give a damn about your feelings.

Tragedy lives there too.
No escaping the truths that won’t let you go.

All you can do is survive where love, no matter how beastly, is the only thing you can truly count on.

Confusing. Wrong. Twisted. Beautiful. Sick.

Love is wild.
And we’re going to set it free.

Warning:
The Wild is an extremely taboo story. Most will find that the themes in this book will make you incredibly uncomfortable. This book is only for the brave, the open-minded, and the ones who crave love in even the most dismal of situations. Extreme sexual themes and violence in certain scenes, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to heavy taboo themes, then this story is not for you.

Review

OK, so, I went ahead and read this book. Given that I not only survived, but somehow enjoyed, the dark twisted work of K Webster in the pretty little dolls series…  I thought,  let’s go for it.. Let’s read the book that was so taboo it got banned from Amazon.

And my verdict? Yes,  it’s taboo,  uncomfortable,  gratuitous and pretty gross… But honestly,  I don’t quite know why people got their knickers in such a huge twist about it… Read it, or don’t,  and move along…
